BACK 2 BASICS exhibition- and editorial design

– Visual Identity, communication materials, exhibition design, photography, editorial/book design. (Art direction, photo and design: Nina Ansten)

Artists featured in the exhibition include Anders Eiebakke, Britta Thie, Sandra Mujinga, Sissel Blystad, Tiril Hasselknippe, Lars Paalgard and Bjørn Ransve. The artists were invited to prepare solo exhibitions, which were shown simultaneously. The artists and the project were also presented in a curated group exhibition.

A book has been published to accompany the project – a result of collaboration between the artists, the curator Mari F. Sundet and photographer/designer Nina Ansten. The book does not necessarily document the individual exhibitions, but rather serve as an extended presentation of each artist. Mari F. Sundet and Nina Ansten have visited the artists during the working process prior to the exhibition. We have investigated how the artists actually practice the method of art. Our aim has not been to define any truth about their artistic practice, but rather to stimulate new thoughts and reflections about their works and the issues that concern them.

Nina Ansten has worked in close collaboration with the curator to develop the exhibition design in the gallery space. Our aim is to develop an audience experience that communicates information, involves and engages the visitors and inspires them to produce reactions, thoughts and reflections upon the individual artists’ contributions, or the project as a whole. We believe that art is important in its ability to stimulate thought, wonder and reflection – to make us want to know more of the world.
